Abstract: Objective The typical status of traffic signal lights were studied based on videos to promote the development of the project and relevant technical standards. Method Based on actual cases，images of traffic lights from three typical types，including a single video or image，a vehicle recorder and multiple videos or images，were analyzed. Result Combined with the images of the target intersection traffic signal control subjects and two other elements，the appraisal methods for the three typical types were discussed. The methods mainly involve four kinds of errors，such as the error produced by the camera shooting frequency and so on. Conclusion According to the status of traffic signal light based on typical video images，the paper put forward the solution for determining the status of signal lights. Errors may occur due to many reasons，and they need to be analyzed by forensic practioners in specific cases.
