Section 1 Submission Instruction
1.Publishing Scope
Chinese Journal of Forensic Sciences is a comprehensive academic (bimonthly) journal governed by the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China and sponsored by Academy of Forensic Science, published by the Editorial Office of Chinese Journal of Forensic Sciences, distributed at home and abroad. Columns include Forensic System, Forensic Review, Forensic Science, and Forensic Forum, as well as Topic Discussion covering hot topics in the theory and application of forensic sciences.
The journal publishes articles in the following fields: New theories, developments, technologies, and integrated innovative achievements in the fields specified by the Judicial Appraisal Practicing Qualification (forensic medicine, physical evidence, audio-visual data, environmental damage); Research achievements in evidence theory and legal issues in the field of forensic sciences; Manuscripts on the theoretical and applicational research results of judicial appraisal system, management, and standardization. This journal prioritizes the publication of research supported by national projects, key scientific research projects, and major research foundation projects.
2. Submission Method
This journal only accepts online submission. Authors should visit the official website of the journal http://www.chsfjd.cn for online submission. Please upload your manuscript in WORD format and provide complete information including phone number and email address. After receiving the manuscript, the Editorial Office will send a notification of receipt via email. Authors can check the status of their manuscripts any time through the submission system.
3.Manuscript Review
(1) This journal adopts the Academic Misconduct Literature Check (AMLC) system to screen all submissions and strictly prohibits academic misconduct such as multiple submission. If verified, this journal will handle it in accordance with Academic Publishing Specification Definition of Academic Miscellaneous for Journals (CY/T174-2019)
(2) The journal adopts a double-blind review system. After submission, the Editorial Office will conduct a preliminary review of the manuscript. The Editorial Office will reject the manuscripts which are insufficient in originality, having serious scientific or technical mistakes, lacking valuable information, or not in the scope of the journal. Manuscripts which have passed the preliminary review will be anonymously sent to two or more peer reviewers. After receiving the manuscript, the Editorial Office usually notifies the author of the decision (acceptance, rejection, or rejection) and review comments by email within 3 months. Authors must return the revised manuscript within 2 months in accordance with the comments of the reviewers and provide responses to each point of the comments. If the revision is not completed within 6 months, it will be treated as a withdrawal of submission. The revised manuscript will be reviewed for the second time. The Editor-in-Chief will make the final decision on the acceptance of manuscripts.
(3) According to relevant provisions of the Copyright Law of China, the Editorial Office has right to make necessary textual modifications or deletions to the submitted manuscripts. Any change to the original meaning is subject to the author’s consent. If the authors do not agree to any change or deletion, please make a statement upon submission.
(4) After typesetting, the final PDF version will be sent through email (zgsfjd@ssfjd.cn) to authors for proofreading. Authors must make corrections to errors in the proofreading file, and all authors must sign on the front page of the proof to confirm that: ① authors agree to publish this final version; ② authors take full responsibility for their own writing; ③ there is no academic misconduct nor violation of law. However, main content of the article should not be changed.
(5) The editorial staff / editors / editorial board members should not be involved in publishing decisions on papers which they have written themselves or have been written by their family members or colleagues. Any such submission should be strictly subject to the journal’s usual editorial process. Peer review should be handled independently from the relevant author/editor and their research groups.
(6) Correction and Retraction: After the publication of the article, if inadvertent scientific errors are discovered that would not significantly affect the results and conclusions of the article, the Editorial Office will promptly issue a correction notice in the journal, detailing the changes made to the original text. If serious scientific errors are found in the published article, or if there are suspicions of plagiarism, fabrication, or other academic misconduct, the Editorial Office may issue a statement notifying the risks associated with the article, conduct an investigation, and publicly disclose the results until the article is retracted with a retraction statement.
4.Copyright Policy
The manuscript should be an original work, without any confidential breach, and has not been published at home and abroad. Once the manuscript is adopted, the author shall agree to transfer the copyright and related property rights of the article to this journal. The copyright of the article to be published belongs to the Editorial Office of Chinese journal of Forensic Sciences, which includes but not limited to the right of compilation, distribution, reproduction, translation, online publishing and dissemination, and licensing those rights to domestic and foreign literature retrieval systems or databases. Authors have the right of personal use and reproduction for the article. They can spread or make use of the article under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 License, and have other rights specified in the Copyright Law. The copyright usage fees shall be paid to authors by a one-off remuneration after publication.
5. Publishing Fees
This journal does not charge for peer review or plagiarism check. For manuscripts that have been confirmed for publication (excluding invited submission), an APC (RMB 600 yuan/black and white page) shall be payable. Color images processing fee (RMB 200 yuan/image) will also be charged. After publishing, a remuneration of RMB 200 yuan/page (including renumeration for CD, internet and database versions) shall be paid to authors accordingly. Two samples of the current issue will be posted to the first author.
6.Open Access and Archive
From 2023, Chinese Journal of Forensic Sciences flipped to open access journal and all journal articles are published as open access articles. According to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), reusers can make use of the article under the prescription of the License and relevant law. Reusers must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Reusers may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses the use. Reusers may not use the material for commercial purposes. If reusers remix, transform, or build upon the material, they may not distribute the modified material. Authors have right to spread or make use of the article under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 License. The full-text articles from the 4th issue of 2010 are also open access, which are available on this website free of charge. Journal articles published beforehand are not open access, but some article abstracts are available on this website. In order to ensure data security, all information has also been backed up in the Editorial Office. In addition, other relevant materials are also kept by the Editorial Office such as supplementary information and forms provided by the authors.
7. Ethical Requirement
(1) Should any academic misconduct, including multiple submission, redundant publishing, plagiarism or data falsification is found, the Editorial Office will immediately reject the manuscript. We will send a notice to other relevant journals in this field and to the author’s institutes. Any submission from the first author and the corresponding author will be rejected within 2 years.
(2) Those who are named as authors should directly participate in the research work, writing the manuscript or has an important guiding role, responsible for the entire content of the article as copyright owners. Other contributors of the paper (e.g., laboratory assistant) may be listed in acknowledgement. “Gift author” is strictly prohibited. The order and affiliation of authors should be determined upon submission, and should not be changed thereafter. If a change is requested, the Authorship Change Application should be signed by all authors and submitted to the journal.
(3) All authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest, i.e., when the financing/personal status/affiliation of the authors (or the authors' organization/employer) may affect the authors' decision, work or manuscript. When a product is mentioned, the author should also disclose whether there is a conflict of interest against competitive products.
(4) Authors should declare their contribution and conflict of interest in Authors Statement Form, which should be signed and submitted to the journal.
Section 2 Requirement of Manuscript
Manuscript format: It is recommended to refer to the guidelines in Presentation of Academic Papers (GB/T 7713.2-2022).
Wordcount: Manuscripts in social science should be 8000-12000 Chinese characters long. Manuscripts in science and technology should be 7000-9000 Chinese characters long.
Content and Order: Chinese title, author names in Chinese, institutes, author introduction, funding project, abstract, keywords, English title, author names in Pinyin, institutes in English, English abstract and keywords, main body text, references.
1. Title
Title should be concise, concrete, and precise, summarizing the main idea of the article, appropriate for indexing. Chinese title should not exceed 30 characters, while English titles should correspond to Chinese titles.
2. Authors
Arabic numbers should be marked at the top right corner of the names of authors from different institutes. The official full name of institution (specific to secondary departments), province, city, postal code, and country should be listed.
3. Author Introduction
The introduction of the first author includes three parts: the author's basic information (name, year of birth, gender), academic background (professional title, degree, research direction), and contact information (email). If a corresponding author is indicated, a "Corresponding Author" part can be added after the "Author Introduction", and the content is the same as the "Author Introduction". This journal does not accept double-first authors or co-first authors, and the corresponding author should have an associate senior professional title or above.
4. Funding Project
For papers that receive funding support, the name and number of the project should be indicated in parentheses.
5. Abstract
The abstract should be independent, self-explanatory, concise, and accurate in describing the main content of the paper. The abstract should be written in third-person perspective and should be around 200-300 Chinese characters long. Abstract writing should follow Rules for Abstracts and Abstracting (GB/T 6447). Abstracts of scientific papers should include four parts: objective, methods, results, and conclusion. Abstracts of social science papers are summaries of main points in the articles, without comments or explanations, succinctly and accurately reflecting the paper content. English abstract should correspond to Chinese abstract strictly. The following guidelines should be followed: (1) common knowledge within the field should not be included in abstracts; (2) content that should appear in the introduction part shall not be included in abstracts; (3) comment on paper content should be avoided (4) standardized terminology should be adopted and uncommon symbols should be avoided.
6. Keywords
Keywords are identifiers for literature retrieval, and should be selected from topic words related to the research objective, methods, results, conclusion, and implication of the paper. For scientific papers, it is recommended to include at least one keyword that can reflect the category of appraisal practice. The number of keywords is generally 3-5. Chinese and English keywords should correspond to each other strictly.
7. Headings
Articles should adopt three-level headings but the introduction part should not have a heading. The first level headings should be numbered as 1, 2, ……; the second level headings as 1.1, 1.2, ……; the third level headings as 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ……; and then as (1), (2) ……
8. Figures
Figures should be self-explanatory, with serial numbers and headings in both Chinese and English. Authors should provide the original image with a resolution of 300 dpi or higher, in a separate file along with the manuscript.
9. Tables
Tables should be self-explanatory, with serial numbers and headings in both Chinese and English. The words in tables should be in Chinese wherever possible. If symbols and abbreviations are used, they should be explained or the full Chinese name should be indicated in annotations. The three-line style shall be adopted and auxiliary lines can be added if necessary.
10. Units of Measurement
The Legal Units of Measurement should be adopted. Names and symbols for quantities and units should be used correctly.
11. References
Citations should be coded in the order in which it appears in text, and the number should be marked in the upper right corner of the citations in the text. The format for the references list after the text shall comply with Information and Documentation - Rules for Bibliographic References and Citations to Information Resources (GB/T 7714-2015). Only the first three authors in a reference are listed, followed by “et al”.
